We all can be blinded by the truth if we are ignorant and foolish. Due to this gift, he knows that Oedipus is the polluter of Thebes.

Throughout the play, many characters are seeing but cannot see the truth. Is it knowledge? Can a blind man see? This is true irrespective the fact that he continually claims to use his physical eyes. The citizens had great respect and confidence in their current king Oedipus, and begged him for help so they would not die like so many others that already had from the plague.
